What can cause a  parapharyngeal abscess?

19F, 5’3, 100 lbs. In early January I had went to the hospital and I had 105 fever, sepsis, and a left neck and parapharyngeal access, and MRSA. During my stay there, I had to have 2 surgeries and had a Penrose drain placed.

I tried to ask my doctors about what could cause this and they told me they didn’t know and that it could be my wisdom teeth or anything. Because I don’t know what caused it, I’m scared I’m going to get it again.

During that time I was vaping, but for a couple weeks but I don’t do that often. I did smoke weed for medical purposes due to chronic pain as well. Could that have caused it?
